Story Highlights KOA Passion for Care Camps

Woodall’s Campground Management magazine has highlighted a number of companies’ efforts to champion worthy causes, including KOA’s Care Camps.

“Thanks to the hard work, passion and commitment of KOA Care Camps, KOA franchisees and corporate parks and other generous donors, children fighting cancer and their families can enjoy a glimpse of life beyond this dreaded disease,” the magazine wrote. “Care Camps lets them put aside their illness to attend summer camp – in the company of others that share and understand exactly what they are going through. This time at camp allows them to simply let go and be kids. Not kids touched by cancer, just kids.”

Wade Elliott, owner of Utility Supply Group, is secretary of the KOA Care Camps Board of Trustees. He told the magazine that though the $550,000 raised in 2013 was an impressive total, he wants to add a zero to that number.

“I’d love to grant $7 million and, to that end, have been knocking on doors at the RVIA (Recreation Vehicle Industry Association) convention, working with outdoor hospitality and recreation suppliers, dealers and more,” he told the magazine.

Elliott also said the company is donating a portion of their KOA Value Kard proceeds to Care Camps.

“We expect this piece of funding to cover all of our administration expenses so every cent of every dollar can go toward sending a kid to camp,” Elliott told the magazine for a story in its May edition.
